Aircraft Fuel Spill Contained And Cleaned Up
Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded to a fuel spill at the L.F. Wade International Airport this morning [June 20] after a fuel leak was spotted from the wing of an American Airlines aircraft.
A Skyport spokesperson said, “A fuel spill occurred this morning at the LF Wade International Airport. At 8:33am, a fuel leak was spotted from the right wing of an American Airlines aircraft. Airport personnel arrived on site along with Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service personnel and began to clean up the area.
“BFRS officers applied fuel pads and absorbent powder to clean up the spill before sweeping the affected area. Drains were blocked to prevent any environmental impact.
“The leak was determined to have originated from an open valve on the left wing which was later secured. Approximately 18 to 20 gallons of fuel was spilled.
“Once the fuel spill was cleaned, the aircraft departed at 9:26am.”
