BNG Lecture Series To Feature Claire Gilman

June 26, 2019

The Bermuda National Gallery [BNG] Lecture Series will be featuring Claire Gilman on Thursday [June 27] to give a visual presentation on drawing, with a reception at 5.30pm and the lecture itself beginning at 6.00pm.

The event poster says, “Claire Gilman will give a visual presentation on drawing, a medium that is constantly evolving and expanding into unexpected formats and disciplines.

“She will consider The Drawing Center’s approach by examining the institution’s recent exhibition history with a particular focus on shows that have sought to look outside familiar definitions of the medium and, recently, to explore drawing’s function in the world today.”

“Claire Gilman [PhD Columbia University] is Chief Curator at The Drawing Center in New York where, over the past nine years, she has overseen the curatorial programme, organizing more than thirty exhibitions and public programmes and authoring nearly as many catalogues.

“Projects have ranged from first-time museum shows of such artists as Torkwase Dyson, Natalie Frank, and Eddie Martinez; to reconsiderations of the work of established artists like Cecily Brown, Rashid Johnson and Terry Winters; to conceptually-driven group shows. In general, Gilman is committed to an expansive vision of drawing as a mediator between self and world.
