Harbour Swimmers Win Medals At Florida Meet

Twenty-three Harbour swimmers attended a meet this past weekend in Fort Myers, Florida, with the team attaining several podium finishes, resulting in them finishing in a strong fourth place overall in a field of 14 teams.

A spokesperson said, “For many of the kids, it was the first overseas trip they competed in and had the opportunity to swim in a field of over 465 swimmers from several US states.

“Over 100 PBs were accomplished by Harbour swimmers as well as several podium finishes, which led the team to a fourth place finish overall in a field of 14 teams. Arabella Newport-Derbyshire captured silver medals in the Girls 10 and under 200 IM, 100 backstroke and 50 butterfly and bronze medals in the 50, 200 and 400 freestyle and 50 backstroke.

“Sienna Spurling captured bronze in the Girls 10 and under 100 breaststroke and Violet Smith captured bronze in the Girls 10 and under 100 backstroke.

“In the boys 10 and under age group, Jacob Wright and Tyler Coleman had strong finishes in all of their events. Wright captured bronze in the 50 Freestyle and placed in the top 8 in several other events while Coleman captured bronze in the 50 breaststroke and silver in the 100 breaststroke.

“Elena Pearman hit a qualifying time for the Harbour Gold full time program in the 100 backstroke, while Somers Estwanik, Tyler Coleman and Charlotte Esperon made qualifying times for the Harbour Gold part time program.

“The team consisted of Jade Mehta, Lila Dudley-Pun, Olivia Gazzard, Somers Estwanik, Arabella Newport-Derbyshire, Sienna Spurling, Violet Smith, Jorgia White, Ava Pedro, Tyler Coleman, Jacob Wright, Caitlin Coleman, Charlotte Esperon, Lauren Rhiluloma, Flora Betts, Sienna Mehta, Elena Pearman, Juliette Smatt, Nathan Burrill, Thomas Cechini, Katya Williamson, Eva Booth and Zhenji Damani.”

Harbour coaches Shona Palmer, Kris Cash and Elise Cooper led the team at the event.
