Football Team Trains In Heat & Rain In Costa Rica
[Written by Don Burgess]
It was the best of weather, it was the worst of weather, as yesterday [June 12] was a tale of two training conditions for Bermuda as they prepare for Sunday’s Gold Cup opener against Haiti in Costa Rica.
The morning session started under sunny skies with temperatures around 70 degrees, about 60% humidity and a slight breeze. By the end of training at the facility in Alajuela, the breeze was gone, the humidity had climbed to 75%, and several players had come off the field to ice their calves.
Coach Ray Jones told Bernews that none of the players were hurt and they were taking precautionary measures.
Bermuda Assistant Football Coach Ray Jones:
“We’re pretty happy with how the boys performed,” Mr Jones said. “We’re really being cautious.
“The boys have matured so that if things don’t feel right rather than keep going until something really serious happens,” they know to remove themselves and let the medical team look at them.
While the weather was all sunshine in the morning, the afternoon was another story. Rain started falling within an hour after the first session finished and the skies opened up with a downpour that didn’t quit. The sky was nearly all black at one point. Nevertheless, the workout had to get done so the team got down to business.
Bermuda’s team includes Nahki Wells, Dante Leverock, Jonte Smith, Reggie Lambe, Dale Eve, Oliver Jalen Harvey, Calon Minors, Roger Lee, Kacy Milan Butterfield, Jaylon Bather, Lejaun Simmons, Donte Brangman, Chikosi Basden, Zeiko Lewis, Willie Clemons, Jahquil Hill, Osagi Bascome, Cecoy Robinson, Justin Donawa, Wendell Tre Ming, Liam Evans, Marco Warren, and Quinaceo Hunt.
