Softball Heads Into Final League Week

June 30, 2019

There are no undefeated teams left as Softball Bermuda heads into its final week of league play.

Sea Venture picked up its first loss as Docksiders beat them 21-17 in A Division play. After downing Paraquet Flyers 26-11, Sea venture is 8-1 with a crucial contest against Blue Wahoos [7-2] on Tuesday at 9 pm. Wahoos stumbled this past week when they lost 11-10 to Chubb Kings [2-6]. Chubb won on a walk-off hit by Josh Hart, who was making his final appearance for the club.

Elsewhere in the A Division, Docksiders [6-4] beat Hakuna Mata Charters [1-9] 16-11. Chubb was nipped 9-8 by Paraquet Flyers [6-4] while X-Bats [5-3] downed Platano Power [2-7].

Outback Skylights picked up their first victory of the year in the Women’s Division by knocking off last year’s double-winner Hardknockz 14-7. Latreece Fray, Sarah Robinson, and Kyanne Scott were all 2-3 for Hardknockz. Stacey Paynter was 2-4 with two RBI to help lead Skylights to the triumph. Teammate Adrienne Smatt [1-2] also had two RBIs. That loss coupled with Angels [8-1] caging the PHC Zebras 21-16, see the ascension of Angels to the league title after a one-year absence. Shawnette Perott [3-3] and Rickelle Smith [3-4] led the hit parade for Angels. Smith had five RBI to go along with her three hits. Akanke Parsons [3-30 and Natasha Trott [3-4, 5 RBI] were the top hitters for PHC.

Angels are scheduled to meet Skylights [1-8] in the first round of the playoffs with Hardnockz [6-3] and PHC [3-6] facing off in the other semi-final.

There were no games played in the Corporate Division, but Athene Warriors [7-2] will head into the playoffs as the number one seed. BEST Shipping and PWC both finished 4-5 with KPMG at 3-6.

There were no contests in the B Division as well. Team Smokey [7-2] will go into the playoffs as the top team. The rest of the playoff pairings are up in the air as FIU Scared Hitless [4-4] will take on Beach Bums [3-5] on Monday at 6 pm while Raggamuffins [3-6] can only sit and watch the outcome of this game.

There was a definite divide between the haves and have nots in the B Division as Buffaloes [8-1] will face off against Shooters [1-8] in the semis. The other side of the bracket pits Super Express [7-2] against Five O’s [2-7]. In last week’s contests Buffaloes shutdown Five O’s 20-5 while Super Express slipped past Shooters 13-12. Jeff Quiz was 3-4 in the loss while teammate Stephen Pacheco was 3-5. Guest player Dylan DeSilva had three RBIs as did Mike Madeiros. Phillip Burgess was the big hitter for Super Express powering his side with two homers and four RBI. Antoine Williams helped in a big way with a grand slam homer.

Games are only scheduled for Monday and Tuesday this week at the Michael Preece Softball Diamond at Bernard Park. Games start at 6 pm.
