Bermuda Softball League Playoffs Results
PHC Zebras upset Hardknockz to advance to the Women’s Division softball final.
Hardknockz was last year’s league and playoff winner. PHC took the best of three series by winning game three 16-5. Zebras’ Akanke Parson [3-5] and Ryce Trott [3-4] both had three hits in the win. Jade Weaver [3-4] had nearly half of Hardknockz eight hits.
They are facing Angels in the finals. Angels had a comfortable two-game sweep of Outback Skylights by winning the second contest 18-4. Casandra Trott was on fire for Angels in going 4-4 with three RBI. Teammates Rickelle Smith and S. Lee were both 3-5.
The B Division saw both of the top seeds knocked off. Beach Bums shocked league winner Team Smokey 22-12 and Raggamuffins beat FIU Scared Hitless 13-7.
In the Corporate Division, KPMG hammered Athene Warriors 20-6 to send the league winners to the bleachers for the rest of the playoffs. KPMG will meet BEST Shipping in the finals. Dustin Luck had a perfect turn at the dish for KPMG in going 5-5 and a homer. Teammates Robbie Bailey [4-5] Rachelin O’Connor [3-5] and Shane Matchett [3-5] also aided in the victory. Nathan Moore and Travis Trott were both 3-4 for Athene.
The A Division playoffs have reached the semi-final stage. In the quarters, with East Division champ Sea Venture Overseas Shopping unplugging Platano Power 10-7 and 9-4. Lovintz Tota was 4-4 in the first contest for Sea Venture while teammate Terry-Lynn Paynter was 3-4 with two RBI. Juan Salas was 3-4 with a homer and two RBI for Platano. The second contest saw SVOS’s Matthew Fullerton being the perfect table-setter by going 4-4 from the leadoff spot while Jason Simons [2-4] hammered two homers.
The West Division’s top seed, Blue Wahoos. Stormed past Hakuna Mata Charters 25-10 and 23-11. In the first game Wahoos piled on 25 hits with Chris Coleman [3-2] blasting two home runs, including a grand slam, as he plated eight runs. Both Shannon Goose and Jeremy Estey were 4-5 for Wahoos.
Docksiders eliminated X-Bats by winning the second match 20-13. They will face Sea Venture in the next round.
It took Chubb Kings three games to upset Paraquet Flyers, who were beset with injuries in their series. Chubb won the first contest 13-10 but then lost to Flyers 16-13 in a game that wasn’t as close as the scoreline might suggest. Chubb finished off the Flyers by winning the rubber game 29-24 and stamped their authority early by scoring eight runs in each of the first two innings. Chubb coach Kyle Smith led by example in going 2-3 with a home run and five RBI in the first win.
Graham Frith had a fabulous turn at the plate for Paraquet in going 3-4 with two homers. The second game saw Paraquet’s Josh Bang [4-5], Steve O’Flynn [4-4], and Michael Smith-Murdock [4-4] all gather four hits. Mike Mallott and Les Dziwenka were both 4-5 for Chubb.
No games in the C Division took place last week. But top teams Buffaloes and Super Express are in the finals.
