Bermuda Wins First Medal At Island Games
The NatWest International Island Games got underway in Gibraltar, with Bermuda winning their first medal courtesy of an excellent showing by Lamar Richardson in bowling.
Athletics
Shianne Smith has advanced to the Women’s 100m Semi-Finals after finishing 3rd in Heat 2 clocking a time of 13.31. Smith also finished 7th in the Women’s Long Jump with a top leap of 5.45m, competing in the Men’s 10,000m Sean Trott finished 4th stopping the clock in a time of 32:50.02.
Squash
Greg Fitzgerald went down 3 – 0 to his opponent from Guernsey, Stephan Smith went down by the same score to his opponent from the Isle of Wight.
Ten Pin Bowling
Lamar Richardson won a Silver Medal, as he rolled games of 244, 208, 238,210 & 227 to edge out the bowler from Aland by one 1127 to 1126 in Men’s Singles.
Damien Matthews was 6th with 1071 pins and David Maycock was 7th overall with 1067. In Women’s Singles action, Gloria Dill led the Bermuda group with 873 pins, Florence Simmons finished 10th with 823 pins and Earlene Tucker finishd 12th with 793 pins.
Tennis
In Men’s Team action Bermuda defeated Guernsey 3 – 0.
Badminton
Playing in the Group Stage Group A, Bermuda went down in their opening match 5 – 0 to Guernsey, they would then fall 5 – 0 to Menorca.
Beach Volley
Keiran and Kyle Hamilton went down to their opponents from Jersey 2 – 0, they then went down to their opponents from Cayman Islands 2 – 0.
