Softball League Play Heads Into The Finals
Most of the softball divisions are in the finals, and one of the most shocking results happened in the semis though, where A Division champ Sea Venture was sunk by Docksiders 31-20, 15-7. Dockies and Sea Venture split the regular-season series, but the number three seed had little trouble getting into the finals. Docksiders pounded out 31 hits to match their 31 runs in the first contest.
Greg Bell [5-6] led the hit parade with two homers. Richard Madeiros, Mike Sakata, Gary Adams, and Brian Ming all had four hits. Sea Venture had 27 base knocks of their own with Terrence Corday and Lovintz Tota both going 4-4. Terry-Lynn Paynter and Jason Pethick were 4-5. Matthew Fullerton had five RBI from the leadoff spot.
Blue Wahoos led from the start in the other A Division semi as they beat Chubb Kings 13-4 to lead the series 1-0. Jeremy Estey [3-4] and Shane Matchett [3-4] had three and four RBI respectively for Wahoos. Mike Malott [3-4] and Diane Blais [2-3] were Chubb’s top hitters.
The B Division finals saw Raggamuffins forfeit their contest after having a player ejected versus the Beach Bums and did not have a replacement player. Buffaloes lead 2-0.
Buffaloes took their second contest against Super Express to go up 2-0. Randy Simons was 3-3 for The Express while teammates Dennis Joell, Andrew Griffith, and Antoine Williams were all 2-3 with Joell hitting a three-run shot. Duncan Frith [3-3] came through for Buffaloes from the bottom of the lineup with a three-run homer. Matt McBeath [1-5], John Masters [3-5], and Phil Froncioni [3-4] also homered in the victory.
In the Women’s Division final, Angels’ bats were on fire as they beat PHC Zebras 26-9 and 24-16 in the best of five series. The first win saw Angels put up a six-pack in the first inning and never look back. Jessie Ewart put on a batting clinic going 5-5 scoring four times and plating three other runners. Keisha Eve was 2-4 while table setters Simone Bang and Cassandra Trott were 2-5, scoring five times between them. PHC’s best hitter was Natasha Trott [2-3] who had a pair of doubles and knocked in three runs. Taznae Fubler was also 2-3.
In the Corporate Division finals, KPMG pummeled BEST Shipping 28-9 and 19-8 to also be up 2-0 in the series. The first game saw Robbie Bailey got the job done from the number one spot in slapping six singles in six at bats, scoring four times and collecting six RBI. Daniel Andrade [5-6], Jeremy Estey, Dustin Luck, and Gareth Yeomans were all 4-6.
Both TJ Brangman and Juan Rosario were 3-3 for BEST while Zikomo McCarter was 3-4 from the leadoff spot.
Due to Cup Match, the only games this week are on Monday starting at 6 pm at the Michael Preece Softball Diamond. Beach Bums will have the opportunity to win their finals in the 6 pm game while Super Express will try to stop Buffaloes from sweeping them in the 9 pm contest. At 7:30 pm, Blue Wahoos will attempt to advance to the finals versus Chubb.
