Bermuda Police Service To Support Labour Day

August 30, 2019

Police Commissioner Stephen Corbishley confirmed that the Bermuda Police Service “will be supporting the annual Labour Day this Monday,” saying they will be present to ensure the safety of all, and also as “community partners to celebrate the significant achievements of those who have brought about change.”

The Commissioner stated: “Past Labour Day events at Union Square have seen crowds in the region of 2,000 or more be in attendance and we anticipate that a similar crowd will be present at this year’s event.

“Having lived in Bermuda for over a year now I have sought to educate myself to the significance of Labour Day for the country.

“I recognise the commitment and sacrifices made by many Bermudians and politicians to address disparity and inequality in the work place and to deliver fair democratic process.

“The BPS will be present to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all attending, but also we will be there as community partners to celebrate the significant achievements of those who have brought about change in Bermuda.”

      So… they… shouldn’t support Labour Day?

      • sage says:

I love all the labour day flags businesses fly every year in commemoration too. Always massive support.

        • Mike Hind says:

Have the unions designed Labour day flags?

          I don’t understand your point…

          • sage says:

Employers should design a flag out of respect for their employees or fly the international labour rights flag unions designed, 888, 8 hours labour, 8 hours recreation, 8 hours rest. Point is the blatant hypocrisy of cherry picking rights.

I know a lot in the BPS who say Corbishley is a good guy, cares about his staff, makes decisions and gets things done. He sticks his neck out in support of the pride parade, way before others have followed suit, and also recognizes Bermuda’s history. He’s doing s good job in my opinion.
