High Police Presence For New Year’s Activities

The Bermuda Police Service will be assisted by the Bermuda Reserve Police to show a “strong, highly visible police presence” throughout the New Year’s period with particular attention to the New Year’s festivities on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning and the football games around the island.

A police spokesperson said, “This year we are pleased to report that the Christmas period passed with few incidents of violence and we wish to thank the public for their support.

“The Bermuda Police Service, assisted by the Bermuda Reserve Police, deployed extra crime prevention patrols throughout the long holiday period and whilst there were some minor incidents, they were swiftly and robustly dealt with. Significant attention was also focused on Bermuda’s roads during the Christmas period to make Bermuda safer.

Fireworks to bring in New Year’s Eve in 2012:

“Over the holiday period there has been no serious injury collisions or fatalities and for that we are truly thankful.

“Going forward into the New Year the Bermuda Police Service wishes to advise the public that we, again supported by the Bermuda Reserve Police, will continue to show a strong, highly visible police presence throughout the long New Year’s weekend with particular attention to the New Year’s festivities on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning and the football games around the island.

“We are also reminding the motoring public do not drink and drive. The New Year’s celebration is one were many consume alcohol, if you drink please do not drive. Secure the services of a taxi or a designated driver.

“Our officers will maintain a strong police presence to deter offenders from spoiling the festivities and will respond very quickly to any emergency. We urge the public to please do your part to by letting us know if you see offences being committed or any other suspicious activity.
