Bermuda Junior Table Tennis Team Trains In NJ
The Bermuda Tennis Association’s National Junior team wrapped up an intense week of training at Lily Yip Table Tennis Center in Dunellen New Jersey with a successful showing a Westchester Table Tennis Club’s prestigious monthly tournament this past weekend.
The team, consisting of Jehziyh Rawlins, Michael Spence-Durrant, David Goonewardene, Leule Simmons, as well as new comers, Anykio Williams and Jadon Spriggs, participated in a week long training camp at Lily Yip Table Tennis Center from August 19th to 23rd, where they received expert tutilidge from expert coaches such as Judie Hugh, former U.S Women’s team member and daughter of former Chinese and U.S National Team member Lily Yip.
The team then traveled to Westchester, New York, where they all competed in various ratings events at the Westchester Table Tennis Club. Spence-Durrant and Goonewardene had the greatest success, with Goonewardene winning the under 1450 division and Spence-Durrant finishing runner up in the under 1750 division.
Coach Jaymo Durham said he was pleased with the team’s overall improvement in such a short span and their ability to apply their skills in a competitive environment. Durham also said he looks forward to the team building on their success in the upcoming North American Team Championships in Washington D.C in November.
