Ms Grande’s other works include the novels Across a Hundred Mountains and Dancing with Butterflies. Her books are now on the reading lists of schools and colleges in both the US and other countries.

Born in Iguala, Guerrero, Mexico, Reyna was two years old when her father left for the US to find work. Her mother followed her father north two years later, leaving Reyna and her siblings behind in Mexico. In 1985, when she was nine, she entered the US as an undocumented immigrant, and later went on to become the first person in her family to graduate from college.
