City Of Hamilton Gears Up For Pride Parade
There will be no full road closures to accommodate the Pride Parade this Saturday [Aug 31] but “rolling road closure will be utilized to keep adverse impact to access and traffic flow throughout the City to a minimum,” the City has confirmed.
A spokesperson said, “The City of Hamilton will play host to the inaugural Pride Parade in Bermuda this Saturday, August 31st. Parade events will kick off in Victoria Park at 9:00am with the parade scheduled to depart from the park and take to the streets at 11am, lasting for approximately an hour and a half.
“Motorists will be pleased to know that there will be no full road closures to accommodate the event but that a rolling road closure will be utilized to keep adverse impact to access and traffic flow throughout the City to a minimum. Cones, barriers and signage will all be in place.
Hamilton Mayor Charles Gosling commented, “I used to be a defender of the traditional concept of marriage. It took my daughter challenging me as how I could explain to gay friends and associates on why they cannot enjoy the same rights I have in life and in death which led to changing my outlook.
“This woke me to the fact that I was being selfish in what I had achieved through simply being one of many and was unwilling to share with people different than me. I was being a hypocrite, dishonest to people I cared about.
“Bermuda suffers greatly from a shared history of restricting rights from people different from ourselves; others being based on race, sex, countries of origin and subtler community-construed differences. We should be ensuring every Bermudian has the rights enshrined in our Constitution, especially that which is mentioned first; the fundamental rights and freedoms of the individual.
“Physically I will not be in Bermuda for this first parade but I will be there in spirit.”
Councillor Nicholas Swan added, “Full civil rights for all is the lifeblood for any society to survive and thrive. I fully support our LGBTQI brothers and sisters and look forward to marching in solidarity with them on August 31st.”
City of Hamilton Secretary and COO, Dwayne Caines, commented on the organization of the event, “We have worked closely with the Bermuda Pride organizers as well as the Bermuda Police Service and the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce Retail Division to ensure that we have a safe, secure and expertly executed event take place on Saturday. Hamilton is open for business and it’s my hope that our greater community enjoys the day while practicing and celebrating inclusivity, tolerance and respect.”
The City also advises that there “will be some restricted street parking along the parade route starting at 6:00am. This is to accommodate the vehicles to be used in the parade and lessen the chance of damage to personal vehicles.”
“A rolling road closure will accompany the parade to minimize disruption to access and traffic flow and all street parking will be reinstated as the parade passes. A road closure notice has been issued for those areas of Dundonald and Washington Streets that are adjacent to Victoria Park that will remained closed from 6:00am until the completion of the parade,” a spokesperson said.
“Participants and spectators of the parade are encouraged to use Bull’s Head or Elliott Street Car Parks as parking costs in those lots have been absorbed by Bermuda Pride and entrance and exit barriers will be raised for convenience. City Hall Car Park will remain as a short-term paid lot for the convenience of City shoppers.”

PLEASE LET THE WEATHER MAN/WOMAN BE RIGHT .
A little shower or bright sunshine. Its a celebration of unity and inclusiveness…something that Bermuda desperately needs right now.
If it rains–mother nature will provide us rainbows!
so we are praying for great weather for this wonderful event to show support for our brothers and sisters and their rights to an UN BIASED world
Pray for rain!
On Monday over Bernards Park
Rain blow or shine, there will be a rainbow!
When plp take over the city will they still allow this?
The OBa UBP didn’t give you what you wanted when in power and their 3 past leaders don’t support SSM, haha
Yet its still happening. Your comment is worth about as much as the average bermudian politician’s integrity. So “haha” to that.
“The OBa UBP didn’t give you…”
You didn’t understand the question? Are you stupid?
first I hope that never happens they will only destroy that as well as the rest of the country that they are full in charge of now …..and how can they stop it , its what a large portion of this community want
get over it
That would be an ideal day for severe thunderstorms!!
Nope, that has been delayed till Monday however the location will still only be over the Hamilton area but centered over Bernards Park.
How nice, wishing for a function (and whatever other ancillary events) to be disrupted by severe weather. You do realize that will affect the “Prayer in the Park” counter-demonstration right?
Some people are just the worst.
All that would do is give us MORE rainbows to celebrate under!
When we were younger crown ups told us that thunder
Was God speaking
So would the the Labour day march (9be a good day for thunderstorms). Idiot.
Remember you don’t have to support this or fly any rainbow flag if you don’t want to but it’s a about loving thy neighbor and showing respect to everyone becuase even I don’t support or agree with it but it’s about kindness
I agree with you. Even I don’t support the parade but fully support gay rights in Bermuda. So, if you don’t want to see the parade, don’t go but just like those who feel passionate about marching on Parliament for political issues, let’s always remain tolerant and kind to one another. We all deserve a little respect.
Completely Stunned. Convictions. “What does it profit….”
Thunder n Lightning please!!
“Thunder n Lightning please!!”
Where to you people come from? What happened to love thy neighbour?
And before you start, I did not mean to physically love your neighbour, I meant it in the same way your Holy Bible meant it.
Joe, you know as well as the rest of us, that some of ‘true, real, born’ bermudians, are hypocrites. Hateful, racist, vengeful ‘people’ who have a lot of energy to complain and hate, but no desire to improve themselves or society.
Thunder n Lightning
