And within a few years, Ms Samms would herself be a fixture on daytime and prime-time US television.

She first appeared as Holly Sutton Scorpio on the daytime drama General Hospital from 1982 until 1985, becoming so well-known even among those who did not watch the show that she was able to make the unusual leap to prime time as Fallon Carrington Colby in the top-rated ABC soap opera Dynasty and its spinoff, The Colbys.

Ms Samms was vacationing in Bermuda with her family when they were invited to visit the set of The Deep, which proved to be a box office sensation when it was released the following year. Her father, who owned a UK film equipment rental company, knew the film’s cinematographer, Christopher Challis.

In a comment on the picture, Ms Samms said, “The next day we went back to the set again and as I was walking towards Nolte the wrap-around dress I was wearing blew completely open. MORTIFIED. It’s taken me 42 years to get over it.”

Now resident in the UK, Ms Samms has made occasional guest appearances on General Hospital in recent years and has appeared on such British TV dramas as Casualty and Doctors.
