172 Visit KEMH Due To Collisions In August
172 people visited the Hospital’s Emergency Department or Urgent Care Centre last month due to road traffic accidents, according to the latest statistics from the Bermuda Hospitals Board [BHB].
A spokesperson said, “Bermuda Hospitals Board road traffic accident statistics for August 2019 are now available. There were 172 cases that required attention at our emergency facilities – 2 people required admission to ICU and 15 to general wards. Of those admitted, one was a minor [17 years old]. No one was air-ambulanced overseas due to a road traffic accident. Twenty-four of those who attended Emergency, were tourists.”

Road traffic crashes not accidents. Accidents can’t be prevented. At least 99% of these could have been with more care, caution and consideration from one or all of those involved.

This averages 5.5 admissions per day…..this is horrendous for Bermuda. With regards to the level of tourist admissions, I have never supported tourists renting scooters for many reasons. How many of these 172 incidents occurred as a result of drinking or drug use?
