Bank Makes Positive Impact On Sports Field
Butterfield Bank employees spent last Friday afternoon [Sept 13] making a positive impact on Bernard’s Park with the addition of new waste bins for the sports field.
As part of Butterfield’s Community Action Month, bank employees partnered with students from Impact Mentoring Academy to complete Keep Bermuda Beautiful’s [KBB]’s Artful Bins project.
KBB executive director Anne Hyde said, “It may seem crazy to get excited about waste bins, but I do. Even people who tell me they can’t paint end up having a good time, and the finished bins look amazing. I want to thank Butterfield Bank, IMA and the companies who contribute to this community improvement project.
“The bins are free and teach a good lesson about reuse. Once they are empty, the bins are donated by water company ROCON, who very kindly cut the tops off for us. Pembroke Paint generously donates the painting supplies to our Artful Bins project. Mr. Edness at Youth, Sport and Recreation wanted more bins for sports fields, particularly Bernard’s Park, and last Friday he got fifteen more.”
A Butterfield Bank spokesperson said, “Correctly disposing of litter is critical to keep our parks, beaches and ocean clean, healthy and safe―for us and the wildlife that share them. That’s why, during September, our employees are participating in a host of activities and challenges designed to help reduce our impact on the environment.
“Butterfield colleagues had a fantastic time with KBB’s Artful Bins project. Teaming up with the enthusiastic young men from Impact Mentoring Academy allowed us to work together to showcase our artistic skills while creating much needed trash cans for the park.”
