Fridays For Future Bermuda Climate Rally

September 23, 2019

Fridays for Future Bermuda members joined millions of high school students around the world on Friday [Sept 20] in a global demonstration demanding urgent action be taken on the issue of climate change.

The local environmental group is part of the worldwide youth movement started by the Swedish school striker Greta Thunberg just over a year ago to draw attention to ongoing global heating.

As Bermuda students gathered in Hamilton on Friday, young people were protesting across the world’s time-zones in what has been called the largest climate protest in history.

The mass rallies were held the day before 16-year-old Greta Thunberg delivered a speech to the United Nations Youth Climate Summit on the issue in New York.

The Greenrock Youth Council and Fridays for Future Bermuda also held marches earlier this year, with young people marching from Nellie’s Walk to the Cabinet Office aiming to bring attention to climate change; with the group carrying signs and chanting “what do we want, climate justice, when do we want it, now.”
