49-Year-Old Visitor Dies Following Collision

[Updated] A collision occurred this afternoon on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish involving a female visitor on rental scooter and a truck.

A police spokesperson said, “Around 1:45pm Thursday, September 5th several 911 calls were received regarding a serious collision on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish near the junction with Cottage Hill Road.

“It appears that a visitor on a rental scooter collided with a heavy truck in the vicinity of the Dub City Variety store.

“CPR was performed at the scene before the injured visitor was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance.

“Traffic diversions are currently in effect while the scene is being processed.

“Any witnesses to this collision are encouraged to call 295-0011 as soon as possible.”

Update 2.57pm: A police spokesperson said, “Sadly, despite lifesaving efforts the female visitor involved, said to be a 49-year-old American woman, has been pronounced dead at the hospital.

“No further information regarding the deceased will be released at this time, pending next of kin notification.

“A full investigation regarding this road fatality, the sixth for 2019, is underway and any witnesses are now urged to call the main police telephone number 295-0011 as soon as possible.”

Update 4.10pm: Police confirm that traffic diversions are no longer in effect.
