BMA Staff Donation Drive Benefits Lefroy House

October 30, 2019

Staff from the Bermuda Monetary Authority [BMA] recently participated in a donation drive campaign and Charitable Friday denim day to benefit Lefroy House, a government-owned, elder care community in Sandys.

BMA staff donated various non-perishable household and personal care items to the campaign conducted in September and October.

Mesheiah Crockwell, the Authority’s Director of Human Resources, commented: “With a focus on the island’s seniors, we set out to assist Lefroy House residents by supplying them with essential items from their wish list to use for their accommodations or their personal use.

“The vision of Lefroy House, which houses about 30 residents and also provides day care services, is to bring purpose, fun and spontaneity to the lives of elders. We hope these items from our donation drive will bring some joy and an element of surprise to the residents’ lives.”

Karen Fox-Simmons, Lefroy House Recreation Therapist, said: “On behalf of the elders and staff at Lefroy House Care Community, we thank BMA staff who gave so generously to the donation drive campaign and denim day fundraiser.

“It was heart-warming to see all the various donated items – from colourful bath gels and body lotions to lovely wool hats knitted by a BMA staff member which will help to keep our elders warm in the cooler months. We know these gifts of love will be greatly appreciated and put to good use by all our elders. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

The efforts are part of the Authority’s expanded community outreach in 2019 to mark the BMA’s 50th Anniversary celebrations.

In honour of its five decades of service to Bermuda this year, the BMA has partnered with a number of the island’s philanthropic organisations whose missions address five categories: children and families; arts and culture; the environment; education; and seniors.
