OBA: “Should Have Been Asked To Recuse”
[Updated] “Why was the President of the BPSU allowed to take part in a meeting between Government and unions,” the One Bermuda Alliance asked today.
OBA Leader Craig Cannonier said, “What did Mr Hayward do – did he ask a question for the union and then run to the other side of the table to answer it for Government? What does he do if Government policy is not in line with what the BPSU wants?
“Government needs to meet the unions on a regular basis but there should be no conflict of interest and Mr Hayward should have been asked to recuse himself. Why didn’t that happen?”
We have asked the Government for a response and will update if able.
Update October 16, 7.23pm: Minister Jamahl Simmons said, “It is unfortunate that an Opposition with delusions of adequacy continues to engage in puerile and juvenile attention seeking tactics. During the Dunkley/Fahy/OBA administration, they had an opportunity to work with our union partners, seek common ground and collaborate for the benefit of Bermudians. Instead, they created an environment characterized by mistrust, non-consultation, disrespect and an average of one protest every 3 months. Bermudians rejected that approach and reject the Opposition’s latest desperate, divisive and attention seeking tactic.
“Our relationship with our Union partners is based on mutual respect, consultation and trust for the benefit of Bermudians and we will not alter our approach at the request of an Opposition lacking in the moral authority to speak on this subject.”
“What did Mr Hayward do – did he ask a question for the union and then run to the other side of the table to answer it for Government? …. LOL he must be able to run fast!
Says de guy who lied about Jetgate.
Waiting to hear the response to this one. Been a conflict since he became a Senator.
What!!!!!!!!!!
Can you explain to OJ what recuse means?….Thanks.
It was nothing more than a photo op, but I have to admit Jamahl Simmons got the best of that.
Jamahl earning his big bucks. What a waste.
