36-Year-Old Man Arrested For Willful Damage

A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of willful damage to a public payphone on Tuesday evening [Nov 26] in Hamilton.

A police spokesperson said, “Around 10:50pm Tuesday, November 26th police officers on mobile patrol in the City of Hamilton were traveling along Cedar Avenue when they came to a stop near the junction with Victoria Street, after observing a man acting suspiciously near a public pay phone.

“The officers approached the man to find out what he was doing – only to discover that the pay phone was damaged. In addition, a crowbar was found at the location.

“The 36-year-old, believed to be a Smith’s parish resident, was arrested on suspicion of willful damage and remains in police custody at this time pending further inquiries by the Criminal Investigation Department.”
