Stabbing At Doghouse Bar, Two Men Arrested
Following a stabbing at the Doghouse Bar on Front Street, two men were arrested and the police ordered the Doghouse to close for 24 hours.
A police spokesperson said, “At around 2:12am, Saturday 2nd November, 2019, police responded to calls about a reported disturbance at the Doghouse bar on Front Street in the city of Hamilton.
“Upon arrival, officers found a man with what appeared to be stab wounds, in the car park opposite the club. He was transported to the King Edward the Seventh Memorial Hospital via private car, but refused treatment for his injuries.
“A second man, who also sustained lacerations and apparent stab wounds, was transported via ambulance to King Edward the Seventh Memorial Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and discharged.
“Both men were subsequently arrested.
“Investigations into this incident continue and anyone with information is asked to call The Criminal Investigations Unit on 247-1744, the main police line on 295-0011 or confidential Crime Stoppers number, 800-8477.”
Doghouse 24 Hour Closure
Commissioner of Police Stephen Corbishley said, “The application of licensing powers to close premises is one that must be carefully considered. However, the BPS will act when it is necessary to ascertain the facts of serious disorder and to enable an investigation to take place.
“I am aware of comments from the proprietors of Doghouse that the decision to close their establishment was an ‘abuse of power by the BPS’. I reject this suggestion when the evidence shows a serious incident of violence took place within their premises and the persons involved are now being considered for charges in consultation with the DPP.
“Of significance, is that initial reports were that an unknown male had been stabbed at the Doghouse Restaurant and Bar. Upon arrival officers encountered two men with injuries which appeared to be consistent with that report. Video evidence obtained indicates the fight involving these two men started inside the Doghouse Restaurant and Bar.
“Two individuals have now been arrested in connection with the incident which informed the decision to close the Doghouse for a period of twenty-four hours. It should be noted each of these individuals is well known to police as violent offenders and the twenty-four hour closure would have prevented the occurrence of any acts of reprisal at that establishment.
“It is also not the first time in recent months that Doghouse has come to the attention of the BPS and we have a responsibility with others to ensure the safety of the public when socializing in licensed premises. A key part of taking such action is to work with the relevant premises not only to ensure compliance with their licensing responsibilities but also for them to take action to prevent such matters in the future.
“The BPS will support all licensed businesses however this must never be at the expense of the personal safety of patrons and the overall need to prevent violence in Bermuda, whether it be on Front Street or within our Parish establishments.”
If this was a US or Canadian bar the mug shots & names of these two would be all over the media by now. In Bermuda the criminal is protected.
Glad I don’t hang out anymore this crap is scary and not just the personal safety aspect, it is scary the way things and society in general are going.
