‘Sidewalks Are For Pedestrians, Not Vehicles’
The City of Hamilton is reminding the motoring public that the “parking of any vehicle on property deemed a City sidewalk contravenes the Hamilton Traffic and Sidewalks Ordinance. ”
Said ordinance clearly states that, “no vehicle shall be parked wholly or partly upon or driven or ridden along any sidewalk.”
City COO, Dwayne Caines, said of the violation, “City sidewalks are for pedestrians, they are not for vehicles. Motorists need to be smart and respectful; they need to do their part to keep sidewalks safe and clear for the walking public. We’re in the busy shopping period and we need to curb this bad behavior to avoid any unnecessary accidents.”
“The current penalty for parking on a City sidewalk is $75.00. Failure to pay the fine may result in additional penalties and a court appearance. Any vehicle left on a City sidewalk for more than seven days will be issued a notice of removal and disposal by the City.”
Good luck COH trying to do anything with the totally lawless , out of control vehicular behavior that the police seem unable to do anything about . haha , you’re going to need it . A whole lot of it !
Great. Now you are encouraging even more vans to take up bike bays while you threaten to charge me because the bike bays are all full!
Sad you have to tell people this!!!!Common sense is non-existent these days.
The CoH is making it harder and harder to (find) park in the city. What do you expect. Keep taking out bays and putting in seating and wider sidewalks and bigger corners. Parking a bike is even next to impossible. CoH is driving away consumers!!!!!!
“Parking a bike is even next to impossible. ”
Completely agree with you there. When pay parking was introduced everyone who had a car and a bike started taking their bikes to town. Poor people with only a bike suddenly found it nearly impossible to find a spot .
But I seem to see open car spaces in abundance .
There are car parks you k ow
what about bike parks
There are car parks you know
They put some signs up. Yeah, that ought to fix it. Everyone pays attention to signs.
so can we citizens throw /push/drag/remove these inconsiderate bikes like the ones that park at KFC in the trash. (Under guise of “additional penalties”) cars and trucks i don’t have an answer for as yet. Maybe deflate their tires until law enforcement may appear
Any ordinance to deal with the increasing number of vagrants openly drinking in public??
