The Safety and Health Committee at Prospect Primary School has introduced a ‘Fabulous Fruit Day’ once a month in order to support the Department of Health’s ‘Wellness Wednesdays’ initiative.

A spokesperson said, “On Wednesdays, the Department of Health promotes Wellness Wednesdays. To support this effort and in line with their quest to continue to be a healthy school, the Safety and Health Committee at Prospect Primary School has introduced a ‘Fabulous Fruit Day’ once a month.

“The purpose of this day is to further promote heath, wellness and the variety of fruits and vegetables that are available as healthy snacks.”

“Wednesday, January 22 was the launch of ‘Fabulous Fruit Day,’ and all students and staff were invited to bring an orange fruit or vegetable for their recess snack. Those participating were allowed to wear orange grub day clothes.

“Students and staff also greeted commuters on Frog Lane and Palmetto Road wishing them a ‘Happy Orange Day.’ Finally, Ms. Marie Beach from the Department of Health visited the school this morning to have our staff and students participate in aerobic exercises before they went off to begin their day in the classroom.

“As Prospect Primary School continues to develop the whole child, they believe that this regular event will help students to be aware of and to make healthier eating choices.”
