Football: Burnley Have Recalled Nahki Wells

January 27, 2020

Bermudian footballer Nahki Wells has returned to Burnley after the club recalled him from his loan at QPR saying they plan to “determine the striker’s long-term future,” and QPR has confirmed that they are “keen to sign the striker on a permanent basis.”

A statement from Burnley said, “Nahki Wells has returned to Turf Moor after the Clarets re-called him from his loan spell at Queens Park Rangers.

“The Clarets exercised their option to curtail the loan agreement and have brought Wells back to determine the striker’s long-term future. Wells has scored 15 times for QPR this season, including 13 goals in the Championship.

“The former Bradford City and Huddersfield Town striker – who joined the Clarets from Huddersfield in August, 2017 – also scored nine times for the Londoners during a season-long loan at Loftus Road in 2018/19.”

A statement from QPR said, “Nahki Wells has been recalled by parent club Burnley, and QPR CEO Lee Hoos has confirmed the R’s are keen to sign the striker on a permanent basis.

“Wells joined QPR in the summer on a season-long loan following a successful 2018/19 in W12. The 29-year-old has scored 15 goals in 29 appearances this season.”

Hoos told www.qpr.co.uk: “Burnley have recalled Nahki which is their right. I wouldn’t normally make any comments regarding potential transfer targets but in this instance it is important our supporters know we are keen to sign Nahki on a permanent basis.

“Our current valuations on the player are far apart and we cannot agree to a deal which will leave us in breach of FFP.

“We are working hard for a positive conclusion but we must ensure any agreement is financially viable for QPR.”

QPR fans chant in support of Nahki Wells at a game held earlier this season:

Other clubs are also reportedly interested in Wells, with the British media reporting that Bristol City and Nottingham Forest are among those vying for his talents.
