Charter Flight From The UK On April 24th

April 18, 2020

Premier David Burt confirmed that there will be another flight from the UK, with a British Airways chartered flight departing from Heathrow Airport on Friday.

Speaking at last night’s [April 17] press briefing, Premier Burt said, “This Government feels for the many students and Bermuda residents that remain stranded in the United Kingdom, and around the world. In order to assist in remedying this situation, the Cabinet Office in conjunction with Government House has arranged for another flight from the United Kingdom.

“It is important to know that this flight is only for persons who are ordinarily resident Bermuda. That means students, and those who may have been stranded outside of Bermuda, from their travels. It is not for persons who relocated to the United Kingdom, who wish to relocate to Bermuda.

“Also, it must be noted that persons returning will be required to pay the sum of $100 per night for accommodation and food, in Government quarantine facilities. For further information on this airbridge flight, His Excellency, the Governor will now give remarks.

Governor John Rankin’s remarks

“As the Governor mentioned, Bermudian students, and Bermudians ordinarily resident in Bermuda will be returned to Bermuda via the airbridge that will be departing from London Heathrow on Friday.

“The London Office will be in contact with those persons who are eligible for the flight, and there is no further need to contact the London Office as they already have the list of persons who have made themselves known.”

In an online post, the Government House also said, “His Excellency the Governor joined the Press Conference this evening alongside the Government of Bermuda to extend his condolences to the families who have sadly lost loved ones to COVID-19. The Governor went on to thank all of the medical staff, Bermuda Police Service, Fire & Rescue Service, Royal Bermuda Regiment and all essential staff that continue to serve the island during this difficult time.

“In better news, His Excellency was able to confirm that there will be another Air Bridge flight scheduled for next Friday [24 Apr] which will be bringing back Bermudian residents to the island as well as a return trip to transport UK residents. Reassurance was given to the public that all persons arriving on island will be required to quarantine for 14 days in a Government facility.

“For information regarding how to secure a seat for the return flight to the UK please email the Executive Officer on executiveofficer@gov.bm with your contact details. This flight will carry persons who are ordinarily residents of the UK and for those persons needing to transit through the UK to other countries [stipulations to apply].

“Details for how to secure a seat on the flight will be issued on Monday, 20 April via email.

“If you have already been in contact prior to this announcement with the Executive Officer you will not need to resend your details.”

And this folks is why we will forever be infested with Covid-19. My mother is out there. She wants to come back terribly but she knows the risk and is willing to stay away until this all blows over to make sure IF she does have it it stay with her until she’s recovered and she can put nobody else at risk. But this, this is why we will Continue having positive test results and community spread. Bermuda is a joke, the people here don’t take this seriously and the the bermudian students who are rescued are disrespectful and unappreciative. Covid 19 even after 2 weeks quarantine can be spread! Get rid of the cases here, make sure the bermudians abroad are taken are of until this passes over and in the meantime protect us who live here. But Bermuda has always been behind the time.

Chill out folks. There are thousands of test kits and ppe coming on this flight too. Residents of bermuda are entitled to return home so long as they quarantine.most other countries in lockdown have not closed their airports at all. Bermuda is applying far stricter rules than most. The premier is doing a great job. Trust him and follow the rules and we will do ok.
