National Museum Launches Pre-Purchase Tickets

April 10, 2020

The National Museum of Bermuda [NMB] is asking community members to pre-order admissions tickets through their website to support the Museum while it is closed during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

A spokesperson said, “The National Museum of Bermuda [NMB] is asking community members to pre-order admissions tickets through their website to support the Museum while its historic buildings and grounds are closed due to the pandemic. Supporters can buy now, enjoy free offerings online, then visit NMB when it is back open.

“As a non-government and non-profit organisation, NMB relies on donations to fund exhibitions, the conservation of artifacts, restoration of historic structures, publications, education programming, and archaeology.

“During this unprecedented time, Museum staff is working hard to support their community in the best way they can, committing to providing educational resources, historic perspective and distraction.

“A new programme, ‘At Home with History,’ which can be found online, will host free online content for all, including a 360 virtual tour of Graham Foster’s beloved mural, the Hall of History, live discussions with Mr. Foster and the NMB curatorial team, a project to document the current pandemic, weekly blogs, genealogy research, online exhibitions and more.

“They are also working closely with Department of Education, creating units and content for primary and middle school social studies students learning from home.

“Behind every online resource are dedicated staff working to fulfill the Museum’s educational and cultural mission and promote understanding of Bermuda’s history and culture. Advance ticket sales will help NMB remain active as it grapples with loss of admissions and event revenue.”

Executive Director Elena Strong said, “We acknowledge that this is a difficult time for everyone, including the entire non-profit sector. With admissions and venue hire contributing to the majority of the Museum’s operating funds, the closure is having a significant impact on our ability to carry out our work.

“However, we are confident that generous individuals and advance ticket purchasers will assist in enabling staff to continue remotely creating the resources teachers, students, families and life-longer learners need today, for a stronger community for tomorrow.”

“Buy one, or as many tickets as you can here. If you are able, consider also becoming a member of the Museum or renewing your membership here.”
