Print Shop Adjusts, Produces Face Masks
Bermuda Blueprinting, a local print shop company, has re-tooled its equipment to make face masks and sneeze guards in response to Covid-19.
A spokesperson said, “Living through Covid-19 is a unique experience in itself, but when considering Bermuda is an isolated island in the Atlantic, this adds more layers to consider – both positive and negative. Businesses are having to pivot and re-tool, which is exactly what Bermuda Blueprinting has had to do these past weeks.
“Bermuda Blueprinting had a good hard look at their tools and resources and asked themselves, ‘what can we do to help?’
“After assessing the island’s needs and the inability to get certain products to Bermuda in a timely fashion, Bermuda Blueprinting and their sister company Island Embroidery found a way to add masks, sneeze guards and Covid-19 signage to all usual services they offer.
“In an effort to make masks, they are using their direct to garment t-shirt printer to print custom designs onto fabric that they have been able to source with help from Gibbon’s Company.
“A pattern was made in-house and the printed fabric is cut on a machine that is traditionally used for cutting unique shapes out of paper, board and acrylic. A growing circle of local seamstresses, who have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, are being sub-contracted to assemble the masks while practicing safe social distancing from the comfort of their homes.
“The team at Bda Blue has also found a way to utilize acrylic they typically use for custom signage, to instead create protective shields for various businesses in the retail, services and medical sectors. These are designed, cut and moulded onsite to custom specifications. Site visits and installations are all conducted to a high level of social distancing.
“It’s been a really interesting process for us,” notes John Stephens of Bermuda Blueprinting. “Having to reinvent what we do for the betterment of our clients has been challenging but ultimately rewarding. You don’t think about how the world is running low on things like elastic and acrylic, so even when we recognized how we could help, sourcing these materials has not been easy.”
While Bermuda Blueprinting has been able to gather the materials they needed, there was also the element of trial and error.
A Bermuda Blueprinting spokesperson noted “it was really important for us to get the masks right, so while we were perfecting our shape/fit, we took the opportunity to make several masks we could donate to Westmeath Seniors Home who would likely need them during this time. We delivered them and are thrilled we were able to donate these valuable resources to one of our local care homes.”
