Five People Complete IoD Qualification Courses

June 24, 2020

Despite having their studies interrupted by Covid-19, the Institute of Directors, Bermuda branch, today announced that five people had successfully completed professional qualification courses.

“We extend congratulations to delegates who completed designation examinations between January and May 2020 and welcome them to the growing number of residents certified in company direction. The IoD Bermuda certified pool includes: 5 Chartered Directors, 23 Diploma holders and 70 Certificate holders,” a spokesperson said.

“The Bermuda Branch hosted two modules in the Certificate in Company Direction [CICD] programme on-island in February and March 2020, prior to Covid-19 shelter-in-place and travel restrictions. Course Leaders traveled to Bermuda from the UK to lead the Finance for Non-Finance Directors and Leadership for Directors models, which were fully subscribed with 20 delegates each.

“Covid-19 shelter-in-place restrictions disrupted delegate examination plans as many delegates had elected to sit computer-based examinations at the Bermuda College Examination Centre beginning in March 2020. These delegates had to change to remote access and sit examinations at home.

“We salute all who have navigated through exam preparation and testing while working from home, home-schooling children, and adjusting to environments that may not have been selected as ideal for learning and assessment. Congratulations,” added the spokesperson.

“We also give credit to the IoD team in the UK who worked with the IoD Bermuda team and our delegates to facilitate and track changed plans and ensure that everyone was able to access the testing platform. The team worked together in support of delegates.

“In addition to the delegates who completed Diploma and Certificate designations, an additional 15 delegates have also achieved examination success in the governance, strategy, finance and leadership modules which form part of the Certificate in Company Direction programme during the past five months. Many of these delegates will complete the CICD designation when courses resume later in the year.”

“The IoD Bermuda’s professional development calendar will resume in September 2020. IoD Course Leaders are willing to travel to Bermuda to lead CICD modules if Bermuda’s borders are open to air travel and the UK relaxes post travel quarantine restrictions.

“We are however, exploring alternative module presentation options in the event that borders are closed, therefore we anticipate that the programme will proceed in a format to be determined, in September,” said the spokesperson.

”Registration is available through the Bermuda Insurance Institute website www.bii.bm.
