Register For Student Summer STEAM Academy

June 24, 2020

There are still spaces for this summer’s STEAM Academy but interested students must register by Friday, the Department of Education announced today.

“The annual programme, operated by the Gifted and Talented Education Programme, will be delivered remotely from July 1 – 24th at a reduced cost of $65 a week,” a spokesperson said.

“Students will be engaged in project-based learning as they design a futuristic new STEAM [Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics] school, in response to the Minister of Education’s request for proposals for restructuring the Public School System.

“We’re very excited about this year’s STEAM Academy,” said GATE officer Luann Wainwright-Dill.

“Using online design platforms, students will be engaged in remote learning classes from 10 a.m. until 2:15 p.m. Participants will be envisioning, designing, creating and proposing a brand new state of the art STEAM school.”

“GATE, will once again be partnering with AH! TEMPO and Digibotics to provide a comprehensive array of opportunities for Bermuda Public School Students. Student applications will be accepted on a first come first serve basis.

“AH! TEMPO, under the directorship of local Music Director, Mrs. T. Malinda Jennings and a team of local experts in the Visual and Performing Arts will immerse [P4-M3] students in the multi-facets of creating the school song, crest, and uniforms.

“Hosted by Mr. Neville Zuill and his team, DIGIBOTICS will immerse P5-M3 students in 21st Century learning experiences that develop some very important skill sets. Students will engage daily in critical thinking, coding, programming, digital interfacing, curiosity, ingenuity, robotic telepresence, building construction and engineering challenges, and collaborative teamwork via web-based platforms.

“The STEAM Academy will culminate with hosting a website dedicated to featuring all the work our students have produced. The website will feature the school song, school uniforms, a virtual tour of the building, and the written proposal for all participants, their family and friends to peruse.

“STEAM Academy is open for enrolment by both public and private school students. Registration ends Friday, 26 June.”

“Interested parents can register their child[ren] by filling out the [one] appropriate registration form online. Contact Luann Wainwright-Dill at lwainwright@gov.bm by Friday, June 26th, 2020, for more information.”
