Phase 3B Implementation Effective Today

June 18, 2020

As signaled in Tuesday’s press conference, Premier David Burt confirmed that additional personal services would be permitted starting today.

“Our continued testing regime and the low numbers of positive results have provided the opportunity to implement a Phase 3B and re-introduce some additional personal services. Facial grooming of beards and eyebrows, as well as waxing and massages can now be provided,” the Premier said.

“Operators are obliged to follow public health guidelines which state the frequency of coronavirus testing that should be followed for the providers of these high risk services.

“The close contact involved in these services requires greater mitigation of the risk of transmission. Service providers must act responsibly and customers must be vigilant for their own safety.”

“The amended Regulations were signed by the Governor earlier today and are now published online. Other changes include permitting additional capacity for charter vessels based on the size of the boat and the adherence to physical distancing rules. Spas are now permitted to open and the resumption of full personal services also includes therapeutic massage and tattooing.”

The Premier concluded, “The high level of compliance we have seen from our community is critical to the progress we are making in reopening Bermuda. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of testing for those who want to continue to offer these services and the continued use of masks and all of the physical distancing protocols which are effectively keeping us safe. Slowly, but surely, we are getting back to normal.”

Why do seniors get to shop Sunday? Why wouldn’t they shop on a weekday, you know, when the rest of us are working?

When does 3c; 3d and up to z come into play? It used to be Phase 3 then Phase 4.

  3. Thank you, The Bermuda Government. You all are dong a terrific, committed, complete and professional job representing BERMUDA, in the lead against Coronavirus!

I am continually confused when the government talks about the public’s compliance. From what I see on a daily basis- people do not know what 6 feet is…and they do not even maintain 3 feet in most cases and a high percentage of people do not know how to wear a mask properly… and they continue to touch it without sanitizing their hands. A mask should totally cover your mouth and nose! And not just the tip of your nose!

I totally understand why people think wearing a mask is horrible… I have to wear my mask… for 8+ hours a day!
If I wear it – properly- for your safety; I expect you to wear it for 20 mins (and less) properly for my safety!
I’m blessed to have been working throughout …it has been crazy and stressful but it is necessary. I am stressed daily because of people’s lack of concern and their open disregard for my safety and of those around them.

My mother is high risk… she is a STAGE IV lung cancer survivor!!! She has had chemo and radiation. She also has COPD.

She is my hero. You would never know looking on how she acts and lives her life…she is helping raise my 9 year old daughter (who didn’t see me for a whole month during lock down because of the law and I didn’t want to risk my mom’s health), she works out twice a week at the gym (of course she hasn’t been able to until this week) and she volunteers a few days a week at drop off at school..keeping the kids safe… the teachers and moms are in awe of her at how seriously she takes her ‘job’s (of course she hasn’t been doing that since this started) (one teacher calls her ‘GG’ and says that she is the most fashionable granny), she always looks put together when she goes out.. even to the gym and she has more energy than me!!

Her safety is important to me and I get so upset and frustrated when I risk my safety and hers to serve people who do not care about mine (or others). They say it is uncomfortable…it fogs up their glasses…it is just a conspiracy…the government wants control…I’m not sick etc etc.
Classic…they pull their mask down to talk…uh, that is the exact time you keep it up for when you are ‘spitting’ the droplets as you talk. I’ve even heard about and seen people comment on Facebook about people pulling their masks down to sneeze!

I notice people ‘out and about’ not wearing masks and not social distancing. I’ve heard stories from friends and others about people walking around town without masks!

I’m so concerned about phase IV because without the necessary precautions…that I do not see the majority of people following… we risk our community and our lives.

I realize the necessity to return to as much normalcy as possible… to get people working… kids at school and camps (it has been extremely difficult for my daughter… I’m sure her not seeing me for a month caused her great anguish…)… I understand the cost benefit analysis.
My issue is with the actual lack of compliance…which is just getting worse because most people are getting complacent.
I even heard someone say the other day that COVID19 is no longer in Bermuda!

If we move forward without compliance there will be dire consequences … we will have community spread of COVID19.
My apologies for the rant but too many people are not taking this seriously.

I appreciate your rant and you make many valid points .
Incidentally , I ride and drive alone without my mask on probably like many others I see doing the same but I hope that like me they put it on as soon as they’re around other people.

  5. What Now says:

If I can get a facial, then why do I have to pay an additional $50 for PPE to get my teeth cleaned.

    • Toodle-oo says:

I hardly want a pedicure or facial or even a waxing but when are we going to be able to walk into the grocery store of our choice again when we want to ?
As much as I appreciate being able to go into any hardware or retail store again it makes no sense whatsoever to have these other almost intimate encounters ok again but I can still only go into the grocery store on 2 designated days .
