“Delays In Testing And Processing Results”

August 1, 2020

“Due to the increase in traveller testing volumes, our teams have experienced delays in testing and processing results,” the Health Ministry said, adding that “the Ministry is due to open a new Hamilton testing site by the end of next week which should better accommodate the volumes being processed daily.”

A spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Health advises the public that due to the increase in traveller testing volumes, our teams have experienced delays in testing and processing results.

“The results of arriving travellers are a priority so persons can be released from quarantine with their arrival results. Therefore, there will be a delay getting results to people who attended the testing site at the Hamilton Cathedral yesterday. However, results will be sent by 5pm today.

“The Ministry apologises for the inconvenience to travellers awaiting their day 4 results to complete quarantine. Unfortunately, the increased volume and the public holiday has stretched the testing teams who are working outdoors in extreme heat with full PPE.

“The Ministry is due to open a new Hamilton testing site by the end of next week, which should better accommodate the volumes being processed daily.”

5.30 and still waiting…. I know they are ironing out the kinks but what happens when more tourists and flights arrive? We stood out in the sun for an hour and a half. Not a great welcome to tourists. Overall I feel the process is working as we have so few cases and no spread since the flights started up again. But handwriting labels for the swab kits is not effective. There should be a tech solution for that.

  2. Ringmaster says:

There is no excuse. Each day there are new arrivals. Each needs to be tested on arrival and set days after. Then add those already arrived who need retesting. The Ministry knew, or should have known, how many people needed testing so why weren’t they prepared? It’s not rocket science but basic maths which is why there is a problem.

EXACTLY! they’ve had 4 months to prepare for the eventual re-opening of Bermuda and are told how many people on each flight. it boggles the mind. we have hundreds of nursing aides here on work permits as caregivers… let them work during this crisis. pay an hourly wage for them to administer the tests or help in the labs.

  3. JL says:

As per the previous comment – there should be a database so all the information captures at arrival is held so they are not handwriting again our only contact info. We returned after 4 1/2 months away and not used to heat so yesterday’s hour and a half wait in the sun was very difficult. It is now 7:30 and still no results . We stood in line with visitors and they were not very happy.

Bermuda is the number one country in beating this deadly virus down to a managable level.

The People of Bermuda are extremely fortunate to have all of our dedicated esential workers ; helpers and Administrators all doing a miraculouse job under extreme mental strain and life threating conditions dealing with this world wide pandemic here, all of which ,takes talent and courage far beyond realistic belief.

Many of you are absolutely exhausted !

What gives you the strength to keep going?

All of you should feel extremely proud of your selves !

  5. Forward thinking please says:

The wait time is up to 4 hours some days in the hot sun at the Cathedral and face masks are required in this heat. Handwriting labels is inefficient, all technicians performing the tests are not equal and some cause unnecessary pain and bloody noses. Too many people for the current staff to handle. Hire an IT professional and some qualified nurses and set appointment times!!!

  6. Question says:

    An inexcusable shambles.

  7. Red rose says:

There are really that many tourists arriving?
