Video: ‘Taking Off’ Highlights Near Completion
Skyport has released the latest episode of ‘Taking Off’, a video series that highlights the airport redevelopment project, with this episode highlighting the expected completion, with Skyport saying they “expect construction to be completed by the end of September and then the testing and commissioning will commence for a few months thereafter.”
Speaking in the episode, Mikaela Pearman said, “Construction on the new passenger terminal building began more than three years ago and is scheduled to be completed very soon even though Covid slowed us down,
“But what happens when the building is finished?
“Once construction has reached substantial completion, there is a lot that has to be done before a grand opening ceremony, mainly testing and commissioning of the newly-installed equipment.
“The top of the line baggage handling system, the new check in kiosks, life safety and security systems, waste water treatment, the automated immigration system and much more will need to be tested multiple times so that when the terminal does open, we have no glitches.
“Another important factor is running trials with mock passengers to go through those systems and make sure that all staff know where everything is in preparation for opening day.
“Also, the fit-outs of the restaurants, lounges and retail spaces need to be completed as well.
“We expect construction to be completed by the end of September and then the testing and commissioning will commence for a few months thereafter.
“I’ll be back very soon to let you know when the new passenger terminal building will be open for travel.”
Ok I am confused! Why on Earth have we paid a penalty to the airport when the new airport is not even operational yet?
Surely we only are paying for the new airport being in service?
Cmon OBA! What’s the deal here?
SkyPort, who will operate the new airport, also operate the existing airport. It’s all public if you could be bothered to look it up.
