Warwick Christ Church Provides 20,000 Meals
Thanks to a number of donations and community volunteers, the feeding programme at Warwick Christ Church has now served 20,000 meals since its inception.
A spokesperson said, “While Bermuda continues to wrestle with the complexity of Covid 19’s impact, the cooks, volunteers, and drivers at Warwick Christ Church have never been busier [or hotter].”
“The kitchen is on fire—making so many meals per day and its blazing hot. They could really use some industrial fans!
“David and several members of his volunteer team have worked non-stop for months, seven days per week. Only recently have the core team been able to start taking a weekend break thanks to new volunteers who have joined.”
David Thompson said: “We have just reached 20,000 meals since inception and Friday, August 21] was a record day with 291 meals prepared and distributed.”
“Last week Liberty Mutual employees and management contributed over 100 hours volunteering to help serve the meals. They have now committed to do this one week each month until the end of the year. It gives our volunteers a break as well.
“As we move out of the summer and into the fall season, some of our student volunteers are returning to their studies so we will continue to look for volunteers to help in the kitchen with food preparation and serving meals. We also need drivers.
“We offer a dessert with our meals and have many volunteers baking cookies and brownies to help support that effort. Our delivery system is through volunteer drivers on two routes. We have between 40 -70 people stop at the church to pick up meals daily and we provide 75 meals to Eliza Doolittle on the days they are open.”
