Election 2020: Canvassing In A Covid Era

September 4, 2020

With the General Election set to take place on October 1st, Bernews asked both the political parties about canvassing, and both the PLP and OBA explained that they plan to canvass with Covid protocols in mind, wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.

PLP’s Statement:

A PLP spokesperson said, “The PLP is a grassroots party that believes in connecting with Bermudians in their communities all across the country. Due to COVID-19, we are doing things a little different this election. In order to safely interact with our constituents, we are following the physical distancing guidelines and instructing our canvass teams to wear masks, have conversations outside and constantly sanitize their hands. It is important to us that we stay connected with our communities.”

OBA’s Statement:

An OBA spokesperson said: “The OBA is very aware of Covid and the associated risks and we will be taking great care. We’ll be calling people, doing zoom town halls for constituents and socially distanced canvassing with masks.”

  1. Want the best for Bermuda says:

If PLP were really for it’s people, then why have election on Oct 1st?? And cancel a school day, more hardship for working parents. Our children haven’t even started school yet, DELAYED! Yet ALL private schools are already back in. Our kids will only just be getting back to school. Couldn’t the election day be held when kids out of school over their midterm break!!!??? That is only a few weeks later. What have PLP actually done for us to make our lives better, easier, and focus on a better education for our kids? They have done a good job during civic, but before covid?? I only recall everything going up in prices, raised taxes, decreased trash service, a nightmare bus schedule, sugar tax, whi is healthier now!?? Stop and think, really think Bermuda. This is our future!!!!
