PLP Congratulate New OBA Leader Cole Simons

October 29, 2020

The PLP has issued a statement saying they congratulate “23-year parliamentary veteran Cole Simons on his elevation to leader.”

Mr. Simons was elected by acclamation as the new OBA Leader, replacing former OBA Leader Craig Cannonier who resigned from the position. The OBA now hold 6 seats in the 36-seat House of Assembly, and in addition to Mr Simons, their other MPs are Craig Cannonier, Scott Pearman, Susan Jackson, Michael Dunkley and Jarion Richardson.

A PLP spokesperson said, “Today, the Progressive Labour Party congratulated 23-year parliamentary veteran Cole Simons on his elevation to leader. We look forward to a robust debate on how to reshape our economy in the aftermath of COVID-19.

“First elected in 1998 under the United Bermuda Party banner, Mr. Simons was three times elected under the UBP banner and three times under the OBA banner. He brings decades of experience to the table and we look forward to both debating the veteran politician and working with him to build a Bermuda that works for all Bermudians.”

It’s like congratulating the Captain of the Titanic just after spotting the iceberg.

This plays right into the hands of the PLP who can continue to shape the OBA’s image as the UBP/OBA. Sure, not many alternatives but personally, I would have asked CC to stay on with someone like Jarion as his No 2 with a specific brief to rebuild the party from the bottom up.
The OBA will have no voice and zero influence for the next 4 or 5 years – whatever it does/says will be drowned out by the noise of 30 PLP MPs. it has to rebuild parish by parish, constituency by constituency – that is where its focus needs to be

I agree except for the CC returning part. The UBP/OBA moniker is a wrong one and based on no truth. The same can be said about the PLP…. and oh yeah….aren’t there some former UBP people in their elected ranks?
But you get what you voted for.

Would be referring to people like former UBP leader Kim Swan and former UBP leader Wayne Furbert?

What a bunch of phony patronising individuals.
