October 5, 2020

On Friday night [Oct 2], BMOC received five reports regarding a suspected distress flare sighting off South Shore between Elbow Beach and Horseshoe Bay, however the source of the flare reports remains unknown.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “Friday 2nd October, 10:30 pm – Bermuda radio received a total of 5 independent reports regarding a suspected distress flare sighting off South Shore between Elbow Beach and Horseshoe Bay.

“Some of the sightings suggested that the flare was moving too quickly to be a distress flare, however due to the number of credible reports a Police Land unit investigated and looked out along South Shore.

“Bermuda Radio made urgent marine information broadcasts requesting any further information. No new information was received, and the case was closed on Saturday morning, the source of the flare reports remains unknown.”

“A Police Land unit investigated and looked out along South Shore”. Are you kidding me? Is that IT?

Someone could seriously be in trouble without any radio and you will not send a boat out or a helicopter to search? You CLOSED THE CASE???

    I cannot believe it!
