Dr. Ernest Peets Appointed: Government Senator
Dr. Ernest Peets has been appointed as Senator and the Government Leader in the Senate, and will also be appointed as a Minister.
This was just announced by Premier David Burt who tweeted, “Earlier today I appointed Dr. Ernest Peets as a Senator and Government Leader in the Senate. I am extremely pleased that Dr. Peets has accepted this appointment and look forward to working with him as he joins this committed and dynamic Government team.
“On Monday I will ask the Governor to appoint him a Minister and at that time will announce his portfolio and areas of responsibility. Bermuda will be well served by the wealth of experience and professionalism that Dr. Peets brings to this new phase of his public service.”
“Dr. Peets is a Certified Family Therapist, internationally-certified Addiction and Drug Counselor, Professional Member of the American Counselors Association, & the American Psychological Association. He has worked in corrections, probation & parole, and the Drug Treatment Court,
“Dr. Peets is the Pastor of New Life Church of the Nazarene. He loves the beautiful game of football and is an avid supporter of youth football programmes,” the Premier added.
Dr Peets replaces Rolfe Commissiong, who was removed after being initially appointed as a Senator, Senate Leader and Minister.
This now completes the appointments to the Senate, which consists of 11 members, five appointed by the Governing party, three by the official Opposition, and three Independents appointed by the Governor.
