“Average Age Of All Active Cases Is 35″
The average age of all active cases is 35 and “more than half of the new infections reported over the last six days are residents under the age of 30,” the Premier and Minister said.
This comes as the island is experiencing a continued increase in new Covid-19 cases, with 391 total to date and a record high 149 cases currently active.
Speaking in Parliament yesterday, Premier Burt announced new regulations and said, “These restrictions are not imposed lightly or wantonly. They are guided by public health advice and based on the trends identified in both the average age of the confirmed positive cases and by the results of the contact tracing.
“The numbers do not lie and the story they are telling cannot be ignored. This outbreak is being driven by residents, more specifically young residents. More than half of the new infections reported over the last six days are residents under the age of 30.”
Chart, via the Government, outlining cases by age group:
In providing the results yesterday — when there were 27 new confirmed cases — Minister of Health Kim Wilson said, “The average age of all confirmed positive cases is 45 years [median: 42 years] and the age range is 0 to 101 years. The average age of all active cases is 35 years [median: 31 years] and the age range is 0 to 69 years.
“As we can see from the age range of all active cases, many of our current Covid-19 cases are among our young people, with the median age being 31 years.
“It’s so important for young adults to realize their role in the Covid-19 pandemic. Even healthy people in their 20s and 30s can catch the coronavirus, spread it to others, and suffer from severe illness resulting in lasting health problems or even death. Data from many countries clearly shows that people under 50 make up a significant proportion of patients requiring hospitalization.”
