BPSU & BIU: “Discussions Were Fruitful”

December 12, 2020

The Bermuda Industrial Union [BIU] and Bermuda Public Services Union [BPSU] held a meeting with the Minister of Labour and said that “discussions were fruitful and have resulted in an agreement that talks will continue between the parties to ensure that a mutually agreeable solution is found.”

A joint statement from the two Unions said, “President Bro. Chris Furbert of the Bermuda Industrial Union [BIU] and President Bro. Armell Thomas of the Bermuda Public Services Union [BPSU] met with the Minister of Labour, the Honourable Jason P. Hayward, JP, MP.

“The purpose of the meeting was to further discuss BIU and BPSU’s ongoing concerns pertaining to the decertification of unions as proposed by the Bermuda Government in the recently tabled Trade Union and Labour Relations [Consolidation] Bill 2020.

“More specifically, and in keeping with the basic principles of democracy, during these talks both Unions reiterated our steadfast position that only members of a union must be allowed to participate in the decertification process.

“We are please to report that today’s discussions were fruitful and have resulted in an agreement that talks will continue between the parties to ensure that a mutually agreeable solution is found.

“Bermuda’s workers can be assured that the Island’s Unions remain on the frontline and continue to strongly advocate on their behalf. Further updates will be provided as these talks progress.”

Fruitful for some more than others.

  2. red rose says:

    completely meaningless statement

    • Joe Bloggs says:

That statement is not meaningless at all. It means that Jason Hayward and the tax payers of Bermuda have promised the unions everything they want, but that information will be released in stages so it will be difficult for Mr. and Mrs. Bermuda to put the pieces together.

  3. We will see? says:

We will see how strong our Premier is in putting these Union on their back foot. Unions are not needed in today’s world where legal and arbitration processes are so visible and transparent. Put Union dues in workers pockets where it belongs!

  4. Confusing says:

The Nill passed in the House so what else is there to discuss ?

  5. Infidelguy says:

The Government and the Unions have conspired to take money away from Charities to give to the Unions! Yes, discussions were very FRUITFUL….for the UNIONS!!!

  6. Triangle Drifter says:

The meeting must have been more like a family reunion, a circling of the wagons, before the reality of a destroyed economy catches up with them.

  7. If this doesn’t prove the BIU and other unions have the plp in their back pocket nothing ever will, this action by the cowardly plp is beyond comprehension and gives a clear indication of that the plp government (that the Bermuda electorate foolishly gave a huge mandate too,) direction in where they are taking Bermuda, and that is not a good place!

If those affected by this ( Robbing the poor to take care of friends and Family ) do not fight back, will only have yourself to blame!

There is no way in h*ll and over my dead body, the government would ever had gotten away with that with me, if I was a worker who gave to charity instead of a union, I would have fought back to my last breath!

Just another day I am so happy I made the wise decision to leave that island, you all are going to get exactly what you voted for and some…..

    SMDH!!
