Ministry: ‘Potential Exposure’ At Berkeley Institute

The Ministry of Health has “become aware of a potential exposure at The Berkeley Institute to someone confirmed with Covid-19,” and the ESU is “contacting confirmed close contacts who are being advised that they must quarantine [stay home and away from other activities] and be tested for Covid-19.”

Ministry’s Statement

A spokesperson said, “The Chief Medical Officer has advised that the Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit [ESU] of the Ministry of Health has become aware of a potential exposure at The Berkeley Institute to someone confirmed with Covid-19. The person confirmed with Covid-19 has been isolated.

“The ESU is contacting confirmed close contacts who are being advised that they must quarantine [stay home and away from other activities] and be tested for Covid-19. The public health officers will complete a full assessment. Following the assessment, communication will be provided by the Ministry of Health on any further recommended public health measures such as quarantine and testing.

Education Minister’s Comments

Minister of Education Diallo Rabain said, “The Ministry of Education appreciates the cooperation of the Department of Health and The Berkeley Institute family. I would like to urge our students, teachers, parents and the general public to follow the procedures outlined in order to accurately provide updates to the Ministry of Health.

“We ask all our school families to wear masks, practice social distancing, wash your hands and keep your bubbles small. We all play a critical role in keeping our island safe.”

The Ministry added, “If you have further questions concerning Covid‐19, consult your healthcare provider or contact schoolsurv@gov.bm in addition, all public health guidelines are listed here.”

Increase In Cases

This comes as the island is experiencing a spike in confirmed cases, with the Government announcing yesterday that the island has recorded 24 more positive Covid-19 results, so Bermuda now has 364 total confirmed positive cases to date, with 126 active cases.

    The government is not that bright! Bermuda is an island and stop worrying about the economy. The economy will bounce back……peoples lives will not. Just think what a bad reputation Bermuda will have for just letting Covid-19 go out of control. They will close the island down when the hospital fills up? That new airport will just be a waste for a long time.
