BRSC: “New Year Use Your Safety Gear“

January 7, 2021

The Bermuda Road Safety Council is launching the “New Year Use Your Safety Gear“ initiative, which encourages the members of the public to wear the right protective gear when doing activities including walking, running, and cycling.

A spokesperson said, “As we enter into 2021, sadly the Bermuda Road Safety Council and our community are saddened to hear of the first road fatality of the year and we send our most heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Oronde Wilson Jr.

“January is a time of new beginnings and a fresh start. Many in our community and the world over are looking to reset and start over after a challenging year. In doing so, we should all take time to think and consider how we can be and do better on our roads.

“To that end, the BRSC urges the motoring public to slow down, drive with care and caution, don’t drink and drive, and obey all traffic laws and signs. Road traffic collisions are preventable and as such we must do our part to prevent them from happening.

“This month our slogan is “New Year Use Your Safety Gear“. Now is the time of year for resolutions and adopting good habits. Walking, running and cycling are always big hits in the New Year. While the BRSC encourages this, we want to remind the public that while doing these activities remember to stay bright and to wear reflective gear to be seen. In addition to having the right gear, please ensure that bikes are tuned and in good condition and that you are wearing the correct protective head gear.

“The Bermuda Road Safety Council is full of excitement for 2021, as we will be introducing new additions and enhancements to what we do as the Road Safety Council.

“Road safety takes all of us doing our part to make a difference and by being responsible and accountable for our actions to help make our roads safer. Happy New Year and best wishes to all.”
