Education Ministry Mourns Passing Of Earl Hart

[Updated] On behalf of the Ministry of Education, the Minister of Education Diallo Rabain extended condolences to the family of the late Mr. Earl “Gabby” Hart.

“Mr. Hart was a consummate professional and an educator who dedicated 40 years in the Bermuda Public School system. He always demonstrated an ethic of care characteristic of the profession,” the Minister said.

“Mr. Hart made immeasurable contributions to education across all levels of schooling. Most notably, it was his legacy at the Warwick Secondary School, where he had a positive impact of Vision, Vigor and Victory on many lives as a former principal.

“Mr. Hart was passionate about instilling the values of hard work and personal discipline. He was a mentor that believed in the rights for all students to receive a first-class education. It was with many of the male students who were direct beneficiaries of his leadership.

“Mr. Hart was known throughout the country as a compassionate and fair person, with a larger than life personality. As a teacher of mathematics and physical education at the secondary school level, he taught his students the principles of respect for themselves and for their community.

“As a dedicated educational leader, he was a former executive and stalwart of the Bermuda Union of Teachers. Mr. Hart was committed to building a community where public students could thrive, and Bermuda’s teachers could perform with excellence.

“His passing is a tremendous loss to not only Bermuda’s education system and the island as a whole; he is a loss to the international community who bestowed upon him numerous servant leadership awards across education, and the sporting world of track & field, and football.”

Update Jan 5, 10.42am: A PLP spokesperson said, “The PLP joins all of Bermuda in mourning the loss of Earl Hart.

“Affectionately known as ‘Gabby’, Mr Hart was an educator who contributed over 40 years of service to the Bermuda Public School system as a math and physical education teacher. He is fondly remembered as a former teacher and Acting Principal at Warwick Secondary and for constantly instilling the right of access to first-class education for all students.

“Mr Hart was also known in the sporting world and is remembered for his contribution to track & field and football. He made a huge impact on Bermuda, and consequently, his passing, has reverberated through the community.

“As a life member of the PLP, we join in thanking him for his service to our Party, our community and to the lives of our young people.”
