Glass Panel At Airport Cracks, Being Replaced
One of the tempered glass panels located on the western front of the LF Wade International Airport passenger terminal cracked earlier this month, and as a further precaution, Skyport and the construction team are “carrying out an assessment of each of the remaining glass panels.”
A spokesperson told Bernews, “One of the tempered glass panels located on the western front of the LF Wade International Airport passenger terminal cracked. It is believed that during the manufacturing or installation process, the glass may have been nicked or chipped.
“The stresses around these imperfections can cause the glass to break. When it does, tempered glass is designed to safely shatter in place without risk of sharp edges which could injure nearby occupants.
“Whilst the damaged panel does not pose a risk, as a precaution, the area around it has been cordoned off while the manufacturers prepare to have a replacement panel installed.
“As a further precaution, Skyport and the construction team are presently carrying out an assessment of each of the remaining glass panels.”
