School Open Houses Now Require Registration

January 14, 2021

Attendees at ongoing Bermuda Public Schools Open House events “are now required to register online as part of strengthened security protocols,” the Government said this evening.

A Government spokesperson said, “Due to incidents at two of the events, Commissioner of Education, Kalmar Richards has decided to institute a registration requirement. The registration links are the same as the links advertised to put questions in advance and following the events.

“Registration links are as follows:

“Meeting hosts will check against the registrations before admitting persons into the Open House events. Participants are also required to have cameras on showing their [live] faces and display their full names.

“Open house meetings begin promptly at the advertised time, and participants are advised to arrive in the online waiting rooms at least 15 minutes early to allow implementation of administrative and security protocols.”

We asked the Government for more information on the ‘incidents’ that occurred, and will update if able.

Update 10.44pm: In what is a highly unfortunate and unacceptable scenario, it has been confirmed that two virtual open houses “were disrupted by someone who showed obscene pictures during the meeting” and the “incidents have been reported to the Bermuda Police Service. ”

Hence, as noted above, the Ministry is now requiring registration.
