BWS Issue ‘Severe Weather Watch’ For Tonight

March 3, 2021

The Bermuda Weather Service has issued a Gale Warning and Thunderstorm Advisory valid for tonight [March 3] and a Severe Weather Watch valid for late tonight.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Weather Service [BWS] advised that the active winter weather patterns continue, and has issued a thunderstorm advisory and severe weather watch for this evening through the early hours of tomorrow morning.

“The BWS advised that gusts up to 60 knots may be experienced late tonight and any time between 3.00 a.m. – 6.00 a.m. The BWS notes that as a frontal system approaches from the west tonight, it is expected to intensify overnight near Bermuda.

“The Ministry of National Security notes that residents should use caution when traversing around the island this evening as these conditions will make for a wet and windy experience for motorists.”

The BWS forecast states, “As a low pressure system quickly approaches from the southwest; moderate winds, rain and mist continue ahead of warm front. The front skirts by us this evening before winds rapidly increase strong to gale force tonight ahead of an active cold front.

“This front will bring periods of heavy rain/showers, the risk of thunder, gusts to storm force and the potential for severe weather tonight into early Thursday. Conditions settle later on Thursday before blustery showers linger into Friday.”
