Covid: 33 New Positive Cases, Now 213 Active

March 26, 2021

The Ministry received 1108 test results and 33 were positive for Covid-19 — 14 classified as local transmission with known contact and 19 as under investigation — so the island’s tally of active cases has further increased to 213.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Health received 1108 test results since the last update, and 33 were positive for COVID-19. Fourteen of the new cases are classified as local transmission with known contact as they are associated with known cases. The additional nineteen new cases are classified as under investigation. These cases are among residents with no currently identified link to other known cases or history of travel in the past 14 days.

“Additionally, since the last update, there were four recoveries.

“There are currently 213 active cases, of which;

  • All 213 are under public health monitoring and;
  • None are in the hospital, and none in critical care.

“Since March 2020, Bermuda has recorded 947 total confirmed cases of COVID-19; out of those, 722 persons have recovered, and 12 persons have sadly succumbed to COVID-19.

“The mean age of all confirmed positive cases is 41 years [median: 39 years], and the ages range from less than one year to greater than 100 years.

“The mean age of all currently active cases is 32 years [median: 32 years], and the ages range from less than ten years [age group: 0-9 years] to greater than 80 years [age group: 80-100 years].

“The mean age of all deceased cases is 75 years [median: 77 years], and the ages range from less than 60 years [age group: 50-59 years] to greater than 80 years [age group: 80-100 years].

“The source of all cases is as follows:

  • 238 are imported
  • 641 are classified as local transmission of which:
  • 549 are local transmission with known contact/source and
  • 92 are local transmission with an unknown contact/source
  • 68 are under investigation

“As investigations proceed, transmission categories may change.

“Of the over 190,000 test results reported, the mean age of all persons tested is 43 years [median:  42 years], and the ages range from less than one year to greater than 100 years.

“The seven-day average of our real-time reproduction number is above one, and Bermuda’s current country status remains “Sporadic Cases”. It is anticipated that this status will change over the next few days.

“Now more than ever, I strongly suggest people get tested for COVID-19 and if you do not feel well, or have cold or allergy symptoms, put yourself in quarantine,” said Kim Wilson, JP, MP, Minister of Health. “This current spread is extensive, and people need to know their status.”

“The Ministry of Health has two new walk-in and drive-through pop-up locations that will offer COVID-19 testing to the community starting next week.  You do not need an appointment to get tested at these locations, but please bring a photo ID.

“The locations are TCD [outdoor drive-through lanes], Monday 29 March and Wednesday 31 March, from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Horseshoe Bay Beach car park, Monday 5 April and Wednesday 7 April, from 4:30 – 7:30 pm.”

“Both walk-in and drive-through testing will be offered at TCD, while only walk-in testing will be offered at Horseshoe Bay Beach car park. A photo ID will be required.”

Minister Wilson also reminded the public about the need to assist contact tracing: “There are people who do not want to cooperate with contact tracers. If a contact tracer contacts you, it is vital that you cooperate. Your assistance can help reduce the spread of the virus and save lives. The quicker we can identify people who may be positive for COVID-19, the quicker we can stop the transmission of the disease.”

“Our contact tracers are working tirelessly, seven days a week, hours on end, to help protect this community. We must all do our part, so please, help them to help us all.”

Just get vaccinated people. Don’t be selfish.

And if it isn’t for you, know what is coming.

      Co-sign.

    • Dejavu says:

People who have had vaccinations they still are locked down like the rest of us

      • Unbelievable says:

Whatever bogus “woke science” blog you are reading is giving you bad information. GO get vaccinated.

        1+1=2 not 7.

        • Dejavu says:

Common sense isn’t “woke science” lol…the people who have been vaccinated are on lockdown like the rest of us, why is that if they are vaccinated. Common sense it’s BS plain and simple. Also we have had more road fatalities last year than covid deaths. Yet bikes are still legal and used island wide. By your logic people should all just walk to avoid those bike accidents smh

        • LoL (original) says:

What’s yout source CNN? Did you not see Fouci just today Saturday. People who are vacinated may be nothing more than asimptamatic spreaders. Go watch some live news so you can see and hear the words coming out of his mouth.

LoL your scarier than the virus, your a megalomanic.

    What’s up with the trackntrace?
Friends been exposed and me and nothing back.
    What’s the point?

Where and when’s the next party,,, thanks drain surgeons.

  4. Challenge-thinking says:

Ok, so we have a spike in active cases.
But the focus should be on the number of hospitalisations, of which there are… NIL.

Active cases mean people are building up antibodies, and getting some level of immunity. This is actually good for the island. Those at high risk of getting ill have now been vaccinated, and the infection is largely of younger people who are unlikely to get sick.

Isn’t it time now to stop the mass hysteria of number of cases, and congratulate ourselves on having no cases of sufficient severity to need medical care, and get this economy moving again?

Let’s face it, Covid will likely never be beaten. So stop this panic over case nu,bers.

    • LoL (original) says:

Thank you for your reason and logic. The rest of these zombies would exisle free thinkers if they could. They are authoritarian despots looking for any excuse to control. To bad they aren’t high enough class to be excepted among the choosen. They are fool to think they are better than anyone else.

  5. Kevin says:

This Government has to accept most of the blame for this outbreak …if they had prosecuted the rule breakers quickly and hit them with severe penalties all of the recent parties would not have taken place. Their inaction is a major contributor to this outbreak.
So much for our being proactive

  6. Richard says:

There is too much focus on high case numbers, where the real story is that no-one is in hospital, let alone in Intensive Care.
High infections increase immunity, getting further towards the herd immunity that Mr Burt claims he is targeting.
In reality, we should not be concerned with case numbers that do not lead to severe illness.

However, the reality is we will undoubtedly have a lockdown just before Easter, stopping the traditional kite flying and celebrations for the second year in a row. All to protect ourselves from a virus that isn’t actually making anyone sick.

Where is the logic? Or is it just that Mr Burt loves his control over our lives, with no opposition to challenge him?

    • Reality check says:

Clear, succinct and to the point.
      Agree 100%
Infections are positive for young and healthy people. It has been projected that up to 30% of the U.S. population has already had Covid and and were essentially unaware. They are now immune and contribute towards the herd immunity goal of 70%.

  7. Flatten the curve/Protect KEMH? says:

Ok. So can we add the most important item to the graph please? Hospitalizations.
After all, the entire focus was to flatten the curve to protect KEMH from being overwhelmed correct? I do believe we accomplished that goal as either zero or one person is in hospital and no one in ICU.
Now tell me again why we are all being so massively restricted?
    Curfews. Restaurant limitations. Gathering limitations.
99.98% survival rate. Mirrors the flu. Vaccinate the elderly and protect those with underlying issues. Honestly, that’s it.
This does not make sense on any level.

  8. Hmmm says:

So 200 people have non-severe infections. What exactly is the story here?
