First Cruise From Bermuda Departing On June 26
The first cruise departing from Bermuda will be on June 26th, Transport Minister Lawrence Scott said, adding that “as part of the vaccination policy and coronavirus protocols, the Government will require eligible passengers and all crew members to be fully inoculated against the virus.”
The Royal Caribbean cruise line recently announced 7-night cruises from “first-time homeport Bermuda”, saying that “sailing with vaccinated crew,” the cruises “will be available to adult guests who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and those under the age of 18 with negative test results.”
Transport Minister Lawrence Scott stated, “The news from RCI recently, serves as evidence of our commitment to not only do what we say we will do but demonstrates how we have become innovative during a time riddled with travel restrictions.
“By the end of June, when the ships arrive in Bermuda, a significant portion of the Island’s eligible population will have been vaccinated.
“As part of the vaccination policy and coronavirus protocols, the Government will require eligible passengers and all crew members to be fully inoculated against the virus. Passengers under 18 years must have a negative test result.
“The Ministry of Transport will work closely with the Ministry of Health to ensure all safety protocols are in place and carefully followed. We will continue to look for innovative ways to safely invite travellers to Bermuda.
“I am hopeful that as we plan to reinvigorate the tourism industry and put Bermudians back to work, our island becomes centre stage through homeporting. Bermuda’s tourism future is bright.”
Minister Scott concluded, “We look forward to working closely with Royal Caribbean International and are certain the 7-night cruise on the Vision of the Seas will be an exciting and popular vacation option for tourists and locals alike.”
“Bookings for the 7-night cruise aboard the Vision of the Seas will start on Monday, 29 March, with the first voyage departing on 26 June.”
If this was normal times (like without a pandemic but still with the mountainous Govt debt), I would say great news. But this sounds like a great opportunity or kick starter to something new for Bermuda. I hope it is successful builds on itself.
I would have thought Bermuda is a better destination than departure port. I hope this ship is not going to take up space of ships that want to come to Bermuda as a destination. We only have 2 big ship docks.
Tonight’s announcements of 81 new cases have probably put a hold on this. Thank you to the idiots.
