BUEI Holds Voyages@Sea Online Events
The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI] recently presented Voyages @ Sea, a virtual 3-part series of complimentary 40-minute interactive presentations for kids ages 5-13.
A spokesperson said, “On April 5th, 7th, and 9th, the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI] presented Voyages @ Sea, a virtual 3-part series of complimentary 40-minute interactive presentations for kids ages 5-13. Given the closure of physical camps, Parents and kids alike, some from as far away as South Africa, were eager to participate.”
“While we regrettably had to disappoint the families that were looking forward to our three weeks of Spring camps, being able to open this adventure to every child in Bermuda was an unexpected and wonderful outcome,” said CEO Karla Lacey. “It’s also a testament to the entire BUEI team, who demonstrated creativity, flexibility and adaptability in the face of continued uncertainty.”
A spokesperson said, “Each day, nearly 200 children registered to take part in Voyages@Sea via Zoom, Facebook Live and CITV with each presentation focusing on a different aspect of a voyage at sea. Taking inspiration from BUEI’s 2021 Spring Camps which were cancelled as a result of further restrictions to contain the Island’s recent Covid-19 spike, participants were well-equipped for the journey with lessons in boat building, navigation, and migration.
“Every episode included hands-on craft sessions, using materials easily found around the house, to further increase each child’s engagement and understanding. All were encouraged to share their completed craft activities after each episode on BUEI’s Padlet pages, with an added incentive to win prizes!
“More than 60 uploaded projects were eligible for a series of random draws and BUEI would like to congratulate the following winners of each episode:
- Episode 1. Boats & Shipping – Talaya & Tatiana Sousa
- Episode 2. Navigation – Julia & Leonardo Stoppa
- Episode 3. Migration – Aidan & Lexie Taylor.”
“BUEI’s Education team strives to ensure educational activities are fun and engaging for all ages,” said Ms. Lacey. “Parents have indicated watching and learning alongside their kids was an unexpected but welcomed benefit.”
