Covid: U.S. CDC Moves Bermuda To “Level 4″
The U.S. CDC has now moved Bermuda back to Level 4 which states there is a “Very High Level of Covid-19 in Bermuda” and advises that “travelers should avoid all travel to Bermuda.”
A U.S. Consulate spokesperson said, “The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC] adjusted the Travel Health Notice for Bermuda, changing its status from Level 2 to Level 4, Covid-19 Very High. The adjustment follows Bermuda’s recent increase in active cases.
“The U.S. Consulate continues to engage with the CDC and U.S. Department of State, providing updates on Bermuda’s status during the pandemic, safety protocols and testing regime for residents and visitors. As the COVID-19 situation around the world changes, the CDC is monitoring Covid-19 risk in destinations around the world and making travel recommendations.
“U.S. Consulate General Hamilton recommends exercising caution when traveling abroad due to the unpredictable nature of the pandemic. As conditions evolve, the CDC and Department of State will regularly update advice for travelers.

Screenshot from the U.S. CDC website as of today:
In October 2020, the CDC changed Bermuda’s country classification from ‘Alert Level 2: Moderate Risk’ to ‘No Travel Health Notice: Covid-19 Risk is Very Low.’ That ranking was, in effect, the best ranking the CDC can give a jurisdiction, however after cases increased locally late last year, the CDC moved Bermuda to their highest level ““Level 4: Very High Level of Covid-19 in Bermuda” in December 2020.
On March 1st they improved Bermuda’s classification to “Level 3: High Level of Covid-19 in Bermuda,” on March 15th the CDC moved us to “Level 2: Moderate Level of Covid-19 in Bermuda,” which states “travelers at increased risk for severe illness from Covid-19 should avoid all nonessential travel to Bermuda,” and as of today, they have moved us back to Level 4.
In summary there are four levels, we were at the best level in October, then moved to the 4th [as in worst] level in December 2020, then moved to the 3rd level on March 1st, moved to the 2nd level on March 15th, and as of today [April 5] we have been moved back to Level 4.

That was inevitable
Government needs to close the airport for a month, rent a few hotels as quarantine facilities and treat people that are positive there (free food, free accommodations, GPS wrist bans) after two weeks and they’re COVID Free then slowly let them back into society. Control the numbers and once they’re controlled then slowly re-open. They closed the airport down for less numbers and the process worked. Why hasn’t this been considered. It’s common sense.
Peep Canada’s process.
I’m not sure weather you have been following the news but the Airport is not really the problem. Most who come through the Airport are pre-tested, arrival tested, day 4, 8, 14 etc, etc. The problem is locals not adhering to the rules. We locals have caused this problem. not air arrivals. We are hammering the nails in our own coffin.
So you believe the virus just came across the ocean and infected the local community!
Come on, think!
The virus was imported and then spread amongst the people. If the airport is closed like Canada and other places then it allows us to better control the spread. That’s basic common sense! They did the same thing last year and it lowered the level of transmission, so why switch up now using a strategy that’s proven not to work. This strategy has caused more people to be infected. Yet we’re blaming each other but not the source of the issue which is the importation of the virus! So now people have to be prosecuted for a virus that was imported into the country due to Governments lack of handling it and now we blaming each other??
You can’t make people stay home and live in confinement. Read your constitution! What will happen if those people go to court and pled not guilty? Freedom of movement!
It’s all divide and conquer technique! (Vaccinated vs Unvaccinated) another tool to divide us!
Plus more people have recovered from this virus then those that’s died from it!
Taking a vaccine doesn’t stop the spread nor contracting the virus! Only prevents those that have compromised immune systems from being hospitalized! I support those that want the vaccine but you can’t make everyone put something in their bodies that they don’t want to put in their bodies.
How many people have been hospitalized compared to the overall population?
Wake up people!
Travellers coming into Bermuda are not the problem. They constitute a miniscule number of daily cases, and we already have testing. The problem is that people think it’s all over, and there has been weak, ineffective leadership.
In a population of under 70,000 people, the numbers we have for infections and deaths are actually ‘very good’ (it is never a good thing, yes) compared to most other nations. Why would we be high risk? Our infection rate is around 0.5%, and our death rate is around 0.02%.
Fair question. Does the size of the land make a difference in the equation?
Density of population makes a difference.
Canada, for example, covers about 3,855,100 square miles and has a population of about 37.5 million people. That is 9.73 people for every square mile of land.
Bermuda, by contrast, occupies about 22 square miles and has a population of about 64,000. That is about 2,909 people per square mile of land.
Population density matters.
The current daily infection and prevalence rates are actually terrible.
We have about 1,000th the population of the UK. So our daily infection rate would be about 60,000 a day in the UK, and prevalence would be about 650,000. Those were the UK numbers in early January, when the UK was a disaster.
Our problems started when the curfew was lifted, at the end of February. It was a stupid thing to do.
The criteria per the CDC’s website for population’s of under 200,000 is to have more than 100 new cases in the last 28 days. We have met that criteria.
Thanks PLP.
Herein lies the reason that covid passports will be in all of our futures. Bermuda has ZERO push back against even the CDC and we will have to play by their rules if we want that American dollar (either tourism or investment).
Those who haven’t been vaccinated, please do so.
Bermudians proving yet again that they are too stupid to follow simple rules.
If people chose not have te vaccine dont put the blame on them…because that is scaremongering..please do your research on these vaccines….
Govt needs to crack down on the irresponsible and selfish individuals who have brought up a to this level because of their behavior. In a few short weeks we go from patting ourselves on the back for controlling the spread of the virus to an unimaginable surge in cases? I’m pissed at living by the rules and being penalized by the actions of those who don’t.
government needs to just admit they are chasing the common cold/flu. i and stop buying into this drug market game.
